Colonel Wayne Norton

Colonel Wayne Norton was commissioned on March 7, 1979, during a surprise ceremony at the national convention of the Society for Collegiate Journalists at Eastern Kentucky University. Serving as the organization’s national vice president, he was among the national officers selected to receive the honor after the convention chairman, who had been instrumental in bringing the conference to Kentucky, arranged for them to become Kentucky Colonels. The certificates were presented at the closing banquet, and having previously lived in Kentucky for two years, he already understood the special significance of the distinguished award.
