Colonel Annie Belcher

Colonel Annie Belcher attributes her heart for the forgotten, misused, and hurting to being raised by deaf parents. She has spent her life serving the underserved, either voluntarily or through paid positions, and began her career as an ASL interpreter when she was old enough to understand what her parents were signing.

As a young adult, Colonel Belcher became deeply involved in multiple volunteer and youth projects, continuing her efforts as she became a parent herself. She worked with local organizations and churches to bring change to a population that needed to be seen, heard, and strengthened. As a single mother of three, it was important to her to instill the same desire to help those who are hurting in her children. Her family was able to do so by providing stable housing for a family whose sole provider became disabled through a horrific work accident.

After many years as a single mom, she married Colonel J. Belcher, who helped bring her dreams and desires to life by serving the most underserved and unrecognized group that she had been a part of for many years. They partnered with local pregnancy centers and domestic violence shelters that were already doing incredible work, providing additional funding for women in need. Together, they created Anne’s Arbor, an annual fundraiser for women in need. Rather than reinventing the wheel, they chose to support existing organizations by enhancing their resources. In recent years, they have hosted two comedy shows and a silent auction to raise money to cover a year’s rent for a single mom and supporting housing for domestic violence victims, many of whom are mothers. She is honored to partner with organizations that serve the group of women she once belonged to for most of her adult life.

Colonel Annie Belcher shared, “I honestly had no idea this existed until he [Colonel J. Belcher] became one and then submitted my application for consideration. I feel a great honor being included in the lineup of AMAZING GREATNESS of Kentucky Colonels. Thank you for bestowing this title upon me. I will carry it with pride and continue to work towards a life of service.”
